November 11 is a day which all Americans set aside to honor anyone who has ever donned a military uniform and served our great nation. We owe them a sincere debt of gratitude.the text thank you veterans written in a chalkboard and a flag o

As a veteran owned company, Veterans Day is particularly poignant and close to the hearts and minds of everyone who comes to work for CPI. We are proud to say that the CPI team honors our men and women in uniform every day. Finding employment for out-processing military personnel and veterans is an integral part of our mission, said Steve York, CEO of CPI and Vietnam veteran. We honor those who serve by serving them.

Veterans Day, formerly known as Armistice Day, was originally set as a U.S. legal holiday to honor the end of World War I, which officially took place on November 11, 1918. In legislation that was passed in 1938, November 11 was “dedicated to the cause of world peace and to be hereafter celebrated and known as ‘Armistice Day.’ As such, this new legal holiday honored World War I veterans.

In 1954, after having been through both World War II and the Korean War, the 83rd U.S. Congress — at the urging of the veterans service organizations — amended the Act of 1938 by striking out the word “Armistice” and inserting the word “Veterans. Military.com

CPI is also proud to be working side by side with the National Veteran Business Development Council (NVBDC). A 501c3 operated by veterans, the NVBDC is the nation’s leading third party authority for certification of veteran owned businesses of all sizes and the corporations wanting to engage them.

The NVBDC was created for the purpose of providing a credible and reliable certifying authority that would ensure that valid documentation exists of a business’ veteran ownership and control. Why is this important?nvbdc_logo

Many lucrative businesses opportunities are available to certified veteran owned businesses through the supplier diversity programs offered at many companies and government agencies. In fact, the total spend available to qualifying businesses is estimated to be in excess of $80 billion annually.

Our nation’s veterans are very entrepreneurial and they bring a unique set of skills to the market place, which employers would do well to recognize. And recognize they are. There is a movement in this country to capitalize on the strong work ethic and leadership skills that our men and women in uniform bring to the corporate world. From Starbucks and Disney to Capitol One and Home Depot, major corporations are getting on the veteran hiring band wagon. They all know something that CPI has known for 34 years; veterans bring a special brand of loyalty, trust worthiness and intellect to the marketplace. So whether they are starting their own businesses or seeking out traditional employment, veterans are making their mark.

To all of them we say, Happy Veterans Day!
